Privacy statement

Last updated on 5 October 2026

Carinido brings people together for babysitting and pet care. To do that, we need data about you. Here you can read which data, why, for how long, and what control you have over it.

Carinido is responsible for this data. Questions? Email privacy@carinido.com.

What data we have about you

For everyone with an account:

  • Your name and email address. If you log in with Google or Apple, they pass these on to us.
  • Your postcode, town and country. We convert your postcode into a point on the map, so that we can show distances.
  • Your phone number, if you confirm it.
  • Your profile photo and profile text, if you add them.
  • Your language and your notification preferences.
  • The messages you send through the chat.
  • Your bookings: who with, when, for which service and for what amount.

For sitters, we also have:

  • Your rates, your experience and what you offer.
  • Whether your identity has been checked. The check itself is done by Stripe: your ID document and your bank account number are held by Stripe, not by us.
  • A certificate of conduct, if you upload one. Once we’ve checked it, we delete the document; we only keep the outcome and the date.
  • The reviews that parents and pet owners write about you.

For parents and pet owners, we also have:

  • The number of children and details about your pets, such as name, species and notes.
  • What you enter when you make a booking, such as a phone number for emergencies. We delete that number as soon as the booking has ended.
  • Whether you have a pass. Your payment details are held by Stripe; we only see whether a payment has succeeded.

Technical data:

  • The type of device and the browser, if you turn on push notifications.
  • Log files from our servers, to track down faults and misuse.

We don’t ask about health, religion or ethnic origin. Only add that kind of information to a booking if the sitter really needs it, for example an allergy your child has.

What we use it for

  • To make your account and the platform work: searching, booking, paying and chatting. This is necessary to carry out our agreement with you.
  • To send you notifications about your bookings and your account: in the app, by email and, if you choose to, as a push notification. You can turn off email and push notifications yourself in your settings.
  • To keep the platform safe: checking identity and documents, detecting misuse and dealing with reported problems. We and our users have a legitimate interest in this.
  • To comply with the law: we keep payment data for tax purposes and pass on sitters’ income to the tax authorities if the law requires it.

We don’t use your data for advertising and we don’t sell it.

What others can see about you

A sitter’s profile is public: first name, town, profile photo and profile text, rates, badges, reviews and a location rounded to roughly a hundred metres. Your surname, address, email address and phone number are not visible.

Parents and pet owners don’t have a public profile. A sitter sees the first name of a parent or pet owner and what was entered for a booking.

We show a review without the name of the person who wrote it.

Chat messages are only visible to the two participants. We don’t read them. We only look at a conversation if that is needed to investigate a reported problem or suspected misuse, or if the law requires us to.

Who we share data with

We use companies that process data for us. We have agreements with them about this.

  • Google (Firebase) for storing accounts, data and files and for sending push notifications. The data is stored in data centres in the European Union; for logging in, Google also processes data in the United States.
  • Stripe for payments, payouts and sitters’ identity checks. Stripe is itself responsible for part of this and has its own privacy statement.
  • Microsoft (Microsoft 365) for sending our emails.
  • Google (Firebase App Hosting) for running the website.
  • Map and address services: Kadaster’s PDOK for the Netherlands and OpenStreetMap elsewhere. They receive the postcode you search for and, when the map is shown, the IP address of your device.

If data is processed outside the European Economic Area, this is done on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Beyond that, we only share data if the law requires it, for example with the tax authorities, the police or a court.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and profile: until you delete your account.
  • Bookings and payments: 7 years, because tax law requires it. After you delete your account, they remain without your name and without the details you entered.
  • An uploaded certificate of conduct: until we have assessed it.
  • The emergency number for a booking: until the booking has ended.
  • Chat messages: as long as one of the two participants has an account.
  • Reviews you wrote: these stay up, with no reference to you. Reviews about you disappear along with your account.
  • Notifications: until you delete your account.
  • Log files: about a month.

Cookies and storage in your browser

We don’t use cookies to track you and we don’t use advertising cookies. We don’t use third-party services to measure visits.

We do store in your browser what is needed to make the site work:

  • that you are logged in;
  • your language;
  • your choice of Kids or Pets and the country you search in;
  • whether you want to receive push notifications on this device.

If you confirm your phone number, we use Google’s reCAPTCHA to prevent misuse. In doing so, Google sets its own cookies. If you log in with Google or Apple, their terms also apply to that login.

How we protect your data

Connections are encrypted. Data is only accessible to those who need it: you see your own data, and someone else only sees what is public or what belongs to the booking you share. Payment details and ID documents don’t reach us. A small number of admins can view accounts and bookings to resolve problems; we keep a record of what they do.

If something does go wrong with your data, we report it to the data protection authority as the law requires and, if the risk to you is high, to you as well.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • see your data and get a copy;
  • have incorrect data corrected, which you can mostly do yourself in your settings;
  • have your data deleted: you can delete your account yourself, at the bottom of your settings;
  • object to use that is based on our legitimate interest, or ask us to restrict the use;
  • take your data with you to another service;
  • withdraw consent you have given, for example for push notifications.

Email privacy@carinido.com. We respond within a month. We may ask you to show that it is really you.

If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or with the data protection authority in your own country.

Children

Carinido is for adults. You must be 18 or over to create an account. About children, we only record what a parent enters when making a booking.

Changes

If something important changes in what we do with your data, we’ll update this statement and let you know by email.

Supervisory authorities by country

You can also complain about how we handle your data to the supervisory authority in the country where you live.
