Safety

Last updated on 5 October 2026

You’re letting someone into your home, to be with your child or your pet. Or you’re going into the home of someone you don’t know yet. This is what we do to make that safer, and what you can do yourself.

What the badges on a profile mean

  • ID checked: our payment partner Stripe has verified the sitter’s identity using an ID document.
  • Phone confirmed: the sitter has confirmed the number with a code sent by text message.
  • Certificate of conduct checked: the sitter has uploaded a certificate and we have looked at it.

Experience, a first aid certificate, a driving licence or a fenced garden are things the sitter states themselves. Ask about them if they matter to you.

Reviews only come from parents and pet owners with a completed booking. So a new sitter won’t have any yet; that says nothing about how good someone is.

Before you book

  • Read the profile and the reviews, and ask your questions through the chat.
  • Arrange to meet first, especially if it’s the first time. Let your child or your pet get used to the sitter while you’re there.
  • Ask about experience with children of your child’s age or with your kind of animal, and what the sitter would do if something went wrong.
  • With a dog, go for a walk together first.
  • Not sure? Then don’t book. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.

During the booking

  • Leave a phone number you can be reached on, and the number of someone nearby.
  • Agree on the house rules: bedtime, food, screen time, who is allowed in.
  • Write down allergies and medication, including how much and when.
  • For a pet, give the vet’s details and say whether your pet can be let off the lead.
  • Stay reachable and say what time you’ll be back.

For sitters

  • Meet first before you take on a job for someone you don’t know.
  • Let someone know where you are and what time you’ll be finished.
  • Don’t take on a job you don’t feel comfortable with. You can always decline.
  • If something happens to a child, call 112 first if it’s serious, and then the parents. With an animal, call the owner and the vet.
  • Ask what you need to know: allergies, medication, fears, and what a child or animal is and isn’t allowed to do.

Pay through Carinido

We hold the amount until after the booking. If something goes wrong, the parent or pet owner can report a problem and the payout is put on hold until we’ve looked into it. If a parent or pet owner cancels within 24 hours before the start, the sitter gets half the rate.

Outside the platform, we can’t refund anything and can’t mediate. Is someone asking you to pay in advance outside Carinido, or to enter your details somewhere else? Don’t do it, and report it to us.

Is something wrong?

  • Immediate danger: call 112.
  • A problem with a booking: report it on the booking itself. The payout is then put on hold.
  • A profile or message that isn’t right: email hallo@carinido.com.
  • Worried about a child’s safety: contact the child abuse helpline in your country. You’ll find the numbers for each country at the bottom of this page.

We respond to a report within 2 working days. We suspend any account that puts others in danger.
